well ive been looking around and have seen you guys have played plenty of on-line games. can someone tell me another MMO thats good for the price? thanks

There really aren't any other free mmo's quite like this. The closest you will get is, Diablo 2, Neverwinter Nights, Dungeon Siege(Yuck), the rest are pay per month mmorpgs.. which I would recommend, World of Warcraft and possibly SWG if the combat upgrade gets fixed. Of course, you could also try the free trials of Dark age of camelot and Anarchy Online.

I'd recommend Neverwinter Nights, awesome fun game, if you can find a not so laggy server, but they are there and its lots of good time spent

Neverwinter Nights is a fun game, although it's hampered by being based upon a rather poor game-system: ye olde D&D, which has a lot of history behind it; that's both good and bad -- it's rich, but it's archaic by RPG standards. I'd have prefered to see them use something less level based and more skill/attribute based like more modern RPGs, e.g. White Wolf's Storyteller system.

It's also not really an MMORPG (or MMO at all).

But that aside, it really is a fun game. With all due respect to our beloved Guild Wars, Daelen Red-Tiger would kick Little Thom's ass any day of the week...

... GUILD WARS! Seriously... nothing in my mind compares to this in quality, performance, and price. This is by far the best MMO I've been involved in. I've played Galaxies, Matrix Online, Anarchy Online, Everquest, yada yada yada... I've tried them all. I was so very impressed with this game the first day of trying it out I can't begin to explain it.

iRO -international Ragnarok(known as ragnacrack) Online most addictive korean game ever made and is really fun and The best variety of worlds. only problem is Hunters are overpowered.

Before SOE killed SWG with the combat downgrade i would of defently recomended that, but now you should avoid it like the plague. I say stick with guild wars.

personally ive played eq2 WoW d2 and this, and i really have to say that this is the best taht youll get for you money's worth.
eq2 the massive FFA pvp system can ruin it, the WoW pvp systems sucks ass nad $15/month aint worth it, the d2 system is just like GW's
so yeah =P
i ahve to admit though the detail inside of WoW is astounding, but Bliz is really messing up right now, so atm its not the best time to get into it.

Heck half the game is post 20. AO Has a free year, can't hurt to mess around on there for free for a bit I suppose. Not the best game around, but probably the best for free anyways.

Anarchy Online, sorry hehe. It's a pretty old game, never could really get into it myself. Sci-Fi MMO that is confusing as hell at first. Used to cost like 10 a month i think for it, but now it's free for a year to try and draw in more people. It used to have a rep for being highly 'role-playing' but I didn't notice anything different than most mmo's in the week or two I checked it out. Of course any other free mmo is total garbage that a week or two is a good run for me. Most others don't last five minutes.

heh.. I had the same experience with Anarchy Online..

thing is, from a programmer/gamer's perspective.. you're not really gonna find a game 'like' GW. The vision is just so radically different from the trend that has developed. Of course, if you only mean, another addictive MMORPG, then you'd have to break down a few categories. First, if you're looking for free, then you have to ask yourself, do graphics matter? I'm an old mud-freak, so text-based gaming doesn't throw me off. There are plenty of very well written MUDs out there, both addictive, with good player bases, and of a wide variety of themes. Now, if graphics DO matter, but it absolutely has to be free, the best I can suggest to you is ROSE online. Very cute and fun, with a basic potential for addictive play. I never got too too into it, but it was by far the best designed game with no costs whatsoever (free download as well)

If you don't mind paying a few bucks, then you're gonna get what you paid for (depending). Great graphics come at a cost--hours and hours of work done by a company. Most people don't work for free (with the exception of the Linux community :P) So their is usually a cost involved somewhere (GW isn't free, but no monthly for example) Which is justly done in my opinion.. I'm not here to rag on companies trying to make a profit.

WoW is supposedly a phenomenal game, if you're into medieval grinding :P And I also hear Starwars Galaxies is amazing for it's community-driven economy (You could spend your entire SWG life building ships to sell to players, and never fight a mob) but it all comes down to personal opinion. The thing I don't like about the way MMORPGs are going, is very few of them allow a 1-month trial idea. Even a 1-week trial limited to one area is more then enough for me to figure out if I hate or love the game.

Something struck me about GW (wasn't a beta) when I read it's previews/reviews. So I decided to take yet another chance, and see if it lived up to what I had read. Surely enough, for me, GW is shaping to be my favourite MMORPG, due to it's unique grasp on current gaming issues and innovations. Hey, but there's tons of people playing every MMORPG, so their are tons of philosophies. Go search. Go read. But make sure in the end, you're having fun :P
